Unlock Your Productivity with Circadian Rhythm
Are your mornings chaotic and rushed? Do you find yourself waking up after multiple snoozes, feeling stressed that it’s already morning? Skipping breakfast due to lack of time and rushing to work has become a norm. By the time you reach the office, you are already exhausted and stressed out. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many of us start our days this way, but it doesn’t have to be this way. I too used to experience these frantic mornings until I discovered a life-changing piece of wisdom from my granny. Embracing her advice transformed my mornings into stress-free and joyful experiences. I had time to exercise and start my day in a relaxed manner. In this blog, I want to share my granny’s wisdom with you, which has the potential to revolutionize your mornings too. My Granny – A Source of Profound Wisdom My granny was a simple woman, yet her words held profound wisdom. She hadn’t read any self-development books or attended courses, but somehow, she always knew the right things to do at the right time. She lived in perfect harmony with nature, waking up every day at 5 AM, even on Sundays and holidays, regardless of cold winters. I deeply admired her way of living. In my childhood days, my granny urged me to wake up early as well. At the time, I found the idea ridiculous and questioned why I should wake up so early. Perhaps your granny might have suggested the same. It seems that this wisdom is inherent in all grannies. The Wisdom Behind Granny’s Advice Have you ever wondered why our grannies stressed the importance of waking up early? Is it merely because “all life starts at Sunrise on earth”? Or is it a religious belief passed down from our Vedas and Sage Patanjali? Interestingly, science offers compelling evidence supporting our granny’s wisdom, and in 2017, three scientists working on Circadian Rhythm were even awarded the Nobel Prize. Circadian Rhythm is like a 24-hour clock that regulates all biological and physiological processes within the human body. It determines when we should sleep, wake up, eat, and aligns the timings of various life processes. Just as an organization has specific work hours, our bodies also follow an internal clock, known as Circadian Rhythm, guiding our daily activities. The Connection Between Circadian Rhythm and Sunrise Science has found a close connection between Circadian Rhythm and Sunrise and Sunset. Our internal biological clock is naturally attuned to waking up with the Sunrise and slowing down with the Sunset. This aligns perfectly with how our grandparents lived; they woke up and rested at consistent times, in harmony with the natural rhythms of day and night. Disruptions in our day-to-day activities from this natural rhythm can lead to various health issues. Science reveals that individuals who do not live in tune with Circadian Rhythm have a higher likelihood of developing insomnia, depression, anxiety, migraine, diabetes, obesity, dementia, cardiovascular diseases, and other health problems. Our grandparents’ robust physical and mental health, even in their later years, can be attributed to their simple and profound wisdom of embracing Sunrise and Sunset as their daily markers. Circadian Rhythm in the Modern World In the modern world, most of us wake up several hours after Sunrise and sleep late into the night. The daily dose of sunlight during the daytime is often missed, while exposure to artificial light at night disrupts our Circadian Rhythm. Consequently, many of us are living in a state of “circadian fog,” experiencing a mild form of jet lag as our Circadian Rhythm is thrown off balance. Embracing Ancestral Wisdom Understanding the significance of following the Circadian Rhythm for good health, it’s time to wake up with Sunrise and embrace our granny’s wisdom to transform our lives. The simple practice of waking up early offers numerous benefits as below: Consider incorporating Surya Namaskara, an ancient yogic practice, into your morning routine. Performing Surya Namaskara with gratitude to Lord Surya in the early morning sunlight, accompanied by the sounds of nature, brings mind, body, and spirit into alignment, promoting present-moment awareness. Let’s embrace our granny’s wisdom and make waking up early an integral part of our lives. By doing so, we awaken with freshness, make time for a nourishing breakfast, and enjoy deeper, more restful sleep. Our days can be planned peacefully, leading to increased productivity and reduced stress. A simple practice like waking up early can profoundly transform our lives. Signing off with warm wishes for peace and love, Manjula Ghattamaneni
